This inscription was recorded in an earlier survey completed
in 1971 by Miss Jenny Brown and Miss Margaret Warren.
Here lies the corps of Janet Wait spouse to Ninion Smeaton Farmer in Biel Grange who died on the 5th of Decr 1774 aged 71 years Also their children Mary who died in the year 1730 aged ? years Agnes who died in the year 1739 aged one year & a half and Thomas who died in the year 1749 aged ? years. Likewise the said Ninion Smeaton who died 24th June aged 80? years.




In 1759 Ninion Smeaton was allocated seat (pew) no. 13 (out of 40) in the kirk for his personal use.
