This inscription was recorded in an earlier survey completed
in 1971 by Miss Jenny Brown and Miss Margaret Warren.

William Black son of the said David Black born at Whittingehame 1753 died 30th March 1834. Margaret Burnett his wife who died 21st May 1828. Also their two sons David Black born 1792 died 23rd October 1871. John Black born at Whittingehame 1794 died at Garvald 1883. Agnes Stenhouse wife of John Black who died 18th April 1875. David Black their son who died at Garvald 1st September 1883 aged 40 years. Also of Isobella Turbayne wife of the said W.A. Black Trevelyan who died 3rd May 1883 aged 46 years and is interred in Haddington Cemetery. This panel was inserted in 1894 by William Arthur Black Trevelyan.

This inscription was recorded in an earlier survey completed
in 1971 by Miss Jenny Brown and Miss Margaret Warren.

Here lyeth --- --- --- --- who died April 1 1752 aged 47. Also all children to David Black --- --- in Whittingham and also his spouse.

A David Black was the beadle and 'bellman' of the kirk, until in 1757 the Kirk Session accused him of embezzling money, and moreover spending most of it on drink!
