in 1971 by Miss Jenny Brown and Miss Margaret Warren.

Erected to the memory of James Cowden Innkeeper in Whittingham who died 28th July 1816 aged 56 years.

Mrs Cowden, James' widow, paid 2s 6d for her husband's headstone in 1820.
