ON 10TH APRIL 1903
IN THE SEVENTY FIFTH YEAR
OF HIS AGE.

DIED 18TH NOV. 1929.

HERE ALSO ARE INTERRED GEORGE NISBET, HIS FATHER DIED 8TH
DECEMBER 1878, AGED 78 YEARS; JANET MARSHALL, HIS MOTHER
DIED 20TH NOVEMBER 1866, AGED 67 YEARS; AND ANN NISBET,
HIS SISTER, DIED 6TH OCTOBER 1882, AGED 52 YEARS.


William Nisbet was a remarkable self-taught polymath. He was one of the earliest photographers and listed himself as such in the 1861 census. He also made very fine violins and wood carvings and was a respected naturalist. He was a Market Gardener like his father George and died unmarried. His father George was the son of Alexander Nisbet, Carrier, and Isabella Boyd. His mother Janet Marshall was the daughter of James Marshall, Agricultural Labourer, and Janet Dawson. Charlotte Nisbet, his niece, lived most of her life with William and George and acted as a Domestic Servant and latterly Housekeeper for William. She died unmarried at Lint Mill. Ann Nisbet was a Housekeeper at Lint Mill and died there unmarried.
