John Linton was the Farm Manager at Millknowe Farm. He was born in Dumfriesshire, the son of Alexander Linton, Shepherd, and Jane Scott. After a period in England he came to Millknowe in the 1880s. Jane Armstrong's parents were George Armstrong, Shepherd, and Jane Elliot.
