Charles Thomas Spence was a Farmer at Tynefield, Dunbar. He was a famous potato breeder and among his successes were the longstanding varieties Sharpes Express, Dunbar Standard and Dunbar Rover. He was the son of Charles Spence, a well known photographer in Dunbar, and Margaret Goudie. Mary Gray Black was the daughter of George Black, Grocer, and Elizabeth Shanks.
