Rev. Hugh Jamieson, D. D. was 1st minister of the United Presbyterian Church (now the Masonic Hall) which was built in 1795. He was minister from 1795 - 1863; stipend £60 / annum, £5 allowance for a house. He was an able author and successful teacher and received a D. D. from Marischal College, Aberdeen, in 1813.
