William Gillies' parents are also buried in Prestonkirk churchyard. They were William Gillies, died 31st July 1954, and Veronica White Gillies (nee Imrie), died 7th February 1965. There is no headstone over the grave but it is marked by four corner stones bearing the letter G. Their daughter Veronica Imrie Gillies who died 17th November 1919, is also buried in the same place, which is located between Stone Nos. 47 and 48 in Section B of the plan.
William Gillies senior was a county roadsman, and his wife, Veronica, was renowned as she was the first female operator of the telephone exchange, which she operated for several years. After they retired their son William and his wife Agnes (Nancy) took over the running of the exchange until its closure in the early 1960's.
