John Lumsden was headmaster of East Linton Primary School 1881 - 1906 and President of East Linton Bowling Club 1907 - 1908. His son, Oswald Lumsden, was assistant teacher in East Linton Primary School and an enthusiastic golfer. He was secretary of the East Linton Golf Club at the time of his death (a week after his 25th birthday). The East Linton Golf Club still play for the Oswald Lumsden gold medal, donated in his memory by his father.
