John Johnston, station master at East Linton, was transferred to Dalkeith c. June 1902. Before he left, his many friends in East Linton and district presented him with a purse of sovereigns. His successor, Mr Downie, died in June 1903. Upon a numerously signed requisition to the North British Railway Company, Mr Johnston was re-appointed station master at East Linton and died on 31st December 1903 after 6 months in the job!
