The Mitchell Innes family came to Phantassie in 1840. Miss Isabella Mitchell Innes was born at Phantassie in 1846, the younger daughter of Thomas S. Mitchell Innes and Julia Jane Mitchell Innes, and lived there until the death of her mother when she moved to The Glebe. She always led an active outdoor life, had a great love of animals, and was a good horsewoman in her younger days. She was keenly interested in the welfare of East Linton, especially in the work of the East Lothian Benefit Nursing Association and the Women's Rural Institute, of which she was an original member.
