ORDAINED MINISTER OF GIRVAN IN 1784.
AND TRANSLATED TO THIS PARISH IN 1809.
HE DIED 12. JANUARY A.D. 1841.
IN THE 82. YEAR OF HIS AGE
AND 57. OF HIS MINISTRY





THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS
OF PRESTONKIRK IN TOKEN OF THEIR ESTEEM FOR
HIS CHRISTIAN CHARACTER AND IN TESTIMONY OF
THE FAITHFUL MANNER IN WHICH DURING A PERIOD
OF 32 YEARS HE FULFILLED HIS MINISTRY AMONG THEM.



Rev. James Thomson: minister of Prestonkirk 1809 - 1841. The inscription on his tombstone is surmounted by a beautiful female figure, with an open bible on which is the verse, "I know whom I have believed".
