The East Linton "Carters' Play" was established in 1824 - their flag is still in the Council Chamber. During the play the carters had a "Mi Lord", and his right and left-hand Bailies who always headed the procession. George Hunter (Auld Geordie Hunter as he was called) was the very last "Mi Lord" before the Carters' Society was disbanded in the 1890s.
