Alison Barren was born at Fogo, near Duns in Berwickshire on 1st October, 1799 and christened there 13 days later. She was married to John Cray at Langton, Berwickshire in February 1822. The Crays owned or ran the Drover's Inn in East Linton. It later became known as the Railway Inn or Hotel.
